Romanians celebrate birthdays a little differently than we do. For instance, the person whose birthday it is brings cakes and desserts for everyone to enjoy. After lunch everyone sings several songs wishing the person a very happy birthday. Then everyone enjoys the cakes for dessert. When I say cakes I don't mean big cakes like what we have. Pastry shops here serve little cakes (about 3-4 is equivalent to one hefty slice of American cake).
Another tradition is that the people in the office take up a collection of money for the birthday boy/girl. No cards or gifts, just money. They present the money in an envelope during dessert time.
Everyone made today such a great day for Wes. In additon to the desserts he brought, the kitchen had bought a cake for Wes, lit a big candle and watched it burned while everyone joined together to sing:

When we got home I gave Wes his presents. He opened them right away and was very excited about what he got. Tonight we will just stay in, but we plan to continue his Birthday celebration by going to dinner on Friday night. Enjoy the pictures from Wes' special day!

Wes, We're terrible supervisors! We thought of you but then got busy and didn't send you a birthday greeting! Sorry. We can see it was a special day.
