"An Evening at the Opera"

Last Wednesday eveing Wes and had the opportunity to attend the opera at the National Bucharest Opera House. We were invited by a girl from work and were thrilled at the idea of going. Going to the opera is a time for you to dress nice, see an amazing play and spend the evening relaxing to wonderful music. While more and more you will see people (especially young people) dressing down, very casual, usually in jeans, there is still a fancy feel of dressing up, checking your coats and being entertained by excellent performers. And when I say evening, we mean the whole evening! We arrived just before 6:30 and made our way to our seats. The opera started at 6:30 so we had to make our way fast. The opera consisted of 4 acts, each with a break in between and an intermission in the middle. While time flew by and we were enjoying the opera, the clock also flew by as well. It wasn't until 10pm when it over and 10:30 by the time we got to our bus to go home. We now understand the phrase "An evening at the Opera."

It really helped to have someone who speaks Romanian and has been there before to go with us for our first time. We hope to make several trips back as they show almost a different show every night. The opera was in Italian and they have a screen with Romanian subtitles, but our friend from work had printed out the story line in English for us. We could gather what was happening by the actions of the characters but it really helped to read along with what was happening.

This was a great experience and one we look forward to doing again real soon!!!
