CBF General Assembly 2006 - Atlanta, GA

(warning: long with detail)

TUESDAY
Well a lot has happened since our last post and I know many of you are eager to hear about where we have been and what we were doing. Last Tuesday Wes and I left Belton for Atlanta, Georgia to attend the annual CBF General Assembly. Once arriving to the airport we reconnected with old friends. Dorothy Foster and Rebekah Retta were on our flight headed to the same Assembly. We enjoyed conversation as we waited for our flight. When we landed in Atlanta they went to their hotel and we went to ours.

The Assembly was held in the Georgia World Congress Center and our hotel (The Omni) was located right next door. Most of the people associated with CBF were staying in the Omni and upon arrival we were again connected with old and new friends. We enjoyed our evening on Tuesday as we walked the city and relaxed in our lobby watching the Final game of the Mavs vs. Heat. This turned out to be a disappointing game as the Mavs lost the entire final championship to the Miami Heat.

WEDNESDAY

The Assembly officially began for us on Wednesday as we took part in and HIV/AIDS summit that educated and informed us on the growing epidemic and how we can take action to help those dealing with HIV/AIDS and extreme poverty. The Summit continued through Thursday morning. (You can read more about the Summit in the article to the left) After the summit, Wes and I joined the other 4 field personnel who were going to be commissioned as Global Service Corps. We fellowshipped over a great Indian diner at Havali's in downtown Atlanta. After dinner Wes and I went to the Westin to greet my mom, dad, Dee, Blake and Sawyer. They had arrived earlier that day.

THURSDAY
Thursday was a busier day for us filled with meetings, workshops, and the arrival of other family members. A neat part of the day for me was that I got to take part in a Global Women meeting and luncheon. They hononred the new and old field personnel with a book, scarf, and lunch. I enjoyed visiting with other women and getting to know who Global Women as an organization. While I was at this meeting Wes attended the Friends of Truett lucheon for graduates of Truett Seminary. Thursday afternoon CBF held state meetings and Wes and I had the priveledge of meeting with other Texans as they presented us as new Field personnel along with Rod and Connie Johnson and Lizzie Fortenberry. By this point Richard, Garland and Evelyn had arrived in Atlanta and were at the hotel waiting for us. We all had dinner together before Wes and I had to head off to the General Session meeting. We went to bed early as we were beat from a long day and knew we had an even longer one ahead of us.

FRIDAY
Friday morning we were so grateful to have had breakfast with Oti Bunaciu (director of Ruth School), his wife and son, Tammy and Ralph Stocks (field coaches in Hungary) and Ellen (resource coordinator for Ruth School from SC). We visited about our role in Bucharest, when we would be leaving and arrangements for housing while we are there. So many of our questions were answered and we feel that they are really going to try and make this move an easy transition for us. As of right now we are planning on leaving for Romania around September 4th.

After the morning session and time of visiting exhibits Wes and I attended the practice for this upcoming evening's events. Friday night all new field personnel were apart of the Commissioning Service. I will discuss later. Once the practice was over Wes and I went to lunch with our pastor Burt Burleson.
