Before leaving the States to move to Romania I appreciated and valued the ministries involved in refugees, immigrants, and international students. After four months of living in another culture and country, I now have a GREATER appreciation and respect for these ministries (e.g. Aaron and Stephanie Glenn and Elizabeth Fortenberry in L.A. or ESL classes offered by churches). When we moved to Bucharest we had people who helped us in so many ways. I can only imagine what it is like to find oneself in another country not knowing the language, not knowing how or where to buy food, medicine, or trying to find a job and a place to live. Even in these few months, I've come to realize how great an opportunity we have back home in the U.S. to be the presence of Christ to people going through such experiences, whose journey has been much, much more difficult than ours. Immigration issues and politics aside, churches have a great opportunity and calling to love one's neighbor and even one's enemy right in our own backyard.
