Labor Day at the Black Sea

May 1st is a national holiday in many European countries. It is similiar to Labor Day in the Unted States. This year for Romanian Labor Day (Ziua Muncii) we found out that we were getting an extended weekend as many businesses were closed Monday and Tuesday. May 1st is also the start of tourist season for many Romanian beach resorts.

We decided last minute to take a trip to Constanta (180 miles from Bucharest) on the Black Sea coast. Since arriving last September we have been looking forward to going to the Black Sea. We jumped at the oppurtunity to go now. It was quite an experience as the trains were full of young people spending their holiday in Constanta as well (Many memories and stories to share here, just ask if you would like to hear). Fortunatly they all seemed to be going to different resorts than where we were staying. We enjoyed peace, quiet and wonderful relaxation. We even tried to lay out on the beach but the weather was still a little cool. It was a beautiful day in clothes, but not your bathing suits.

We had a wonderful time, but our next trip will be to visit the many things Constanta has to offer, not just its beaches. Enjoy the pictures below:
